Photos from this afternoon’s ceremony in the park for unveiling new No Smoking signs that are going to be installed in play areas across the whole of Conwy County.  Well done to Sophie, whose design for the sign was selected from over 100 entries.  Also, to Jane who came a very creditable second.

LLandudno Mayor and Lady Mayoress, representatives from the Council and Friends of Queens Park; and family members attended.

Easter Sunday

Craig y Don park was a hive of activity on Easter Sunday with nearly 100 children taking part in an Easter Egg hunt.  The event was organised by the Friends of Queens Park Craig y Don, who laid on tea and coffee for the grown ups, as well as face painting.  It was lovely to see so many local residents in the park, and to see the children using the playground and running around the park long after the chocolate had run out.

Presentation to Jeff

The Friends of Queens Park Craig y Don presented Jeff Wright with a certificate of appreciation on Easter Sunday 5th April.  This was in recognition all the hard work he had put into preparing a Time Capsule with the staff and pupils of Ysgol Craig y Don.  Jeff has been a friend of the park for a number of years and had a successful spell as Grants officer during which finances were secured for the roundabout, trim trail and rebuilding of the main entrance.

19 December 2014

The hardy souls of Craig y Don gathered together on Friday 19th December to celebrate Christmas.  The event was organised by the friends of the park, who have away mince pies and hot chocolate to park users during the afternoon. Santa arrived at 5pm and then everyone gathered around the fire to sing a few carols. A lovely event (despite the weather)

7 December 2014

On Friday 28th November the friends of the park were joined by children and staff from Ysgol Gogarth, Graham Roberts from WREN and Sarah Jones from Cartrefi Conwy to officially open the roundabout and trim trail.  This was followed by a picnic lunch provided by the friends of the park.

The recent additions have been possible thanks to a lot of hard work put in by the volunteers of The Friends of Queens Park Craig y Don and a number of generous donors including WREN, Cartrefi Conwy, and the local Lions group.

Latest award

The Friends of Queens Park Craig y Don have won another award. This time it is the Community Champion of the Year from Scottish Power and Trinity Mirror. It was presented to Jeff Wright, our Grants Officer, for his “commitment and determination.”

It is great that the volunteers working hard to maintain and improve the park are being recognised for the time and effort they have put in for the benefit of the whole community.

Wales in Bloom – Outstanding

The Friends of the Park have been awarded “Outstanding” by the Royal Horticultural Society and Wales in Bloom in the 2014 It’s Your Neighbourhood award.

Awarding 88 out of a possible 100, the judge’s report said that “The improvements within this open space have been staggering and have impacted on not only the maintenance of the park but also the development of the infrastructure.”

“Actively sourcing funding, undertaking consultations with stake holders and park users whilst working with many organisations to promote the site, has delivered a new playground, additional landscaping, areas for wildlife and tree management improvements.”

Well done to all the Friends of the Park who give up their time voluntarily to maintain and develop the park for use of the whole community. This has been a real team effort.Gardners with certificate Bloom Outstanding Certificate
